Who was Kaviraj Bhushan....
As the author of SHIVA-BAVNI & SHIV RAAJ BHUSHAN, a lucid, poetical work commemorating Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja, Bhushan is well known to Indian readers. He was borne in 1616, in a Kanoj Brahmin Pandit’s family, at Trivikrampur (now Tikamapoor) in the Kanpoor district. He was the second among the four sons of his father – Ratnakar Pandit. The eldest was Chintamani. He was a scholar of great repute. Matiram & Nilkanth, Bhushan’s two younger brothers were also Pandits of considerable merit, and flourished in different courts.Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja’s increasing fame as the Hindu liberator of Maharashtra, attracted Bhushan to Sahyadri Land in 1667. He secured an audience with Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja on Raygad (Capital fourth of Maratha Kingdom) & so impressed everyone with his rare gifts of versification that he was promptly admitted in to royal service. Since then he was constantly with the Chatrapati Maharaja for the succeeding 7 to 8 years. There he commenced his work of Shivraj Bhushan which was completed in 1674 on the grand ceremony of RAJYABHISHEK arranged on Raygad. He died on Bundelkhand at the far advanced age of 102 in 1718.
